Hello, (again) World

I believe in the computer culture, that it is obligatory to attempt to echo the phrase, "Hello, World" when attempting to accomplish something that you fear won't work.

Blogging with the new Site Host is one of these clandestine activities. Also, the previous blog that would have been found here, "Techno-junk" is retired for the moment. I'm going to take a stab at keeping a theme with this new set of thoughts - and to do that I feel like starting fresh is appropriate.

The theme, Hedonistic Equanimity, should be self-explanatory (yet vague) when you consider the meanings of the two root words.

Hedonism - (Philosophical definition) The ethical doctrine holding that only what is pleasant or has pleasant consequences is intrinsically good.

Equanimity - Evenness of mind; that calm temper or firmness of mind which is not easily elated or depressed; patience; calmness; composure

As a caution with this theme, I must provide the warning, don't read on expecting new age enlightenment or spiritual mumbo-jumbo. I am way too analytic and grounded in economical and socially realistic dispositions to give much regard to unscientific beliefs like Feng Shui or Yin-Yang (though, the latter here provides an excellent listening experience).

Topics that I would actually be discussing include things that affect my life, like finding (and affording) an interesting place to live or what is a good work-life balance for me (and provisions to maximize the "life" aspect). I'll do my best to also promote altruistic hedonism and extend culture that I think is pleasurable (hedonism) and tempered (equanimous), such as by suggesting music by talented groups like MA-based Convey who distribute (good) music for consumption via their website. Also, I'll attack and mock news stories or politicians which display attributes of greed and selfishness.

And even if it doesn't seem like it is the case now, I hope this will all fit the theme of Hedonistic Equanimity.
